NanoH2O NF7 / NF7+

NF7 series

NanoH2O™ NF7 and NF7+ are a new generation of nanofiltration (NF) membrane elements designed to efficiently remove hardness, multivalent ions, and organic compounds in water supply treatment. Both models deliver high permeate flux and strong fouling resistance while balancing salt rejection, product water quality, and energy use. The NF7 element provides a nominal permeate flow rate of 13,000 GPD (49.2 m³/day), and the NF7+ reaches 14,300 GPD (54.1 m³/day). Both offer a minimum salt rejection of 98.0% and use low-differential-pressure (low-dP) feed spacers to reduce hydraulic pressure drop across the pressure vessel.

PRODUCT FEATURES

NanoH2O NF7 nanofiltration membranes are developed to meet increasingly stringent water treatment requirements regarding hardness removal, organic control, and trace contaminant reduction while preserving energy efficiency and operational stability. Below are the detailed technical specifications, operating limits, key features, core advantages, certifications, and target applications for the NF7 and NF7+ elements.

1. Technical specifications of NF7 and NF7+ membranes

Reviewing the technical specifications provides the baseline for evaluating treatment capacity and selecting the optimal element configuration for system design flow rates. NF7 and NF7+ share the same minimum salt rejection but differ in active membrane area, nominal permeate flow rate, and feed spacer thickness, as outlined below:

SPECIFICATIONS NF7 NF7+

3. Key design features of the NF7 series

The NF7 series focuses on targeted hardness rejection and organic removal while maintaining high permeate productivity and stable operation. Key engineering features include:

  • Thin Film Nanocomposite (TFN) membrane technology: Advanced nanocomposite chemistry is embedded into the polyamide active layer to improve water permeability and separation performance.
  • High hardness rejection: Effectively removes divalent ions (Ca2+, Mg2+), serving as a core mechanism for water softening and membrane scaling control.
  • Efficient organic matter removal: Targets PFAS compounds, THM precursors, and NOM to significantly elevate permeate water purity.
  • Optimized ion selectivity: Enhances separation efficiency between monovalent (Na+, Cl–) and multivalent ions, controlling total dissolved solids (TDS) passage while isolating targeted hardness.
  • Fouling-resistant feed spacer: Low-dP feed spacer design minimizes differential pressure buildup across the pressure vessel and supports stable long-term performance.
  • High permeate flow rates: High flux output, 13,000 GPD (49.2 m³/day) for NF7 and 14,300 GPD (54.1 m³/day) for NF7+, caters to high-capacity industrial skids.
  • Prestigious international certification: Certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for municipal water supply treatment plants.

4. Operational advantages of NF7 series membranes

Combining selective ion separation, high permeate flux, and hydraulic fouling resistance, the NF7 series offers clear operational and economic benefits:

  • Reduced specific energy consumption (SEC) due to high hydraulic productivity at lower feed pressures.
  • Elevated rejection of hardness and multivalent species, mitigating scaling risks on downstream equipment.
  • Enhanced permeate purity by removing organic contaminants, PFAS, THM precursors, and NOM.
  • Lower clean-in-place (CIP) frequency, reducing chemical consumption and overall maintenance expenditure.
  • Consistent long-term separation performance in continuous duty skids.
  • Optimized total cost of ownership (TCO) by integrating high separation efficiency with lower operating pressure drop.
  • High-surface-area NF7+ (440 ft² / 41 m²) delivers 14,300 GPD (54.1 m³/day), enabling plants to expand hydraulic capacity without increasing vessel footprint.
  • Fully compliant with NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for potable water systems.

5. International certifications for the NF7 series

Both NF7 and NF7+ hold NSF/ANSI Standard 61 certification for drinking water system components. This certification verifies that all extraction materials meet health and safety standards for municipal drinking water systems, making it a critical requirement when specifying membrane elements for municipal projects.

6. Industrial and municipal applications of NF7 / NF7+ membranes

The NF7 series is engineered for diverse water supply treatment skids requiring controlled hardness rejection, organic reduction, and micro-pollutant removal. Primary applications include:

  • Municipal drinking water supply treatment: Enhancing potable water quality by reducing total hardness, NOM, and disinfection byproduct (DBP) precursors.
  • Water softening systems: Ideal for feed streams requiring partial desalination, hardness reduction, and multivalent scale control.
  • Industrial process water treatment: Integrated into manufacturing process loops where specific ionic composition and consistent water purity are required.
  • Pretreatment for SWRO / BWRO systems: Reducing scaling precursors (CaSO₄, BaSO₄) ahead of Reverse Osmosis (RO) stages to increase overall system recovery.
  • Industrial wastewater reuse: Applied in tertiary treatment skids to remove residual organics and multivalent ions for zero liquid discharge (ZLD) or water recycle loops.
  • PFAS and micro-pollutant mitigation: Assisting municipal and industrial plants in removing PFAS chemicals and emerging synthetic organic contaminants.
